Meet the 2009 Cadillac Escalade Hybrid
What is a Hybrid? A Hybrid is a vehicle that is powered by two or more energy sources. The Escalade Hybrid uses electricity and gas to power the vehicle. Electricity is used to power the electric motors and gas to power the engine.
Escalade Hybrid Highlights. Powered by a patented 2-Mode Hybrid System, the Escalade Hybrid delivers a 50% fuel economy improvement in city driving while still delivering the same distinctive style, segment-leading features and full-size capability that have combined to make the Escalade a true automotive icon.
How it works.
Auto Stop - At stop signs and red lights the engine will shut off conserving fuel and emitting no emissions.
Electric Mode - During city driving and stop and go traffic the Escalade Hybrid may be powered by just electricity from the hybrid electric motors and the 300-volt battery.
Gas Mode - If vehicle demands are high enough the Escalade Hybrid may be powered by just the gas engine.
Gas Mode with AFM - During highway driving if vehicle loads are light, the Escalade will engage Active Fuel Management and run on just four of the eight cylinders to reduce fuel consumption.
Hybrid Blended Mode - The Escalade Hybrid may use both electricity from the hybrid motors and 300-volt battery simultaneously with the gas engine.
Regenerative Braking Mode - The Escalade Hybrid will use regenerative braking to capture some of the energy naturally lost during braking and coasting. It will store this captured energy for use to propel the vehicle in city driving and the hybrid/blended mode..
